Our Vision, Our Mission

Our Core Values

H O S P I T A L I T Y
I was a stranger and you welcomed me. (Matt 25:37)
Victoire Larmenier welcomed everyone in a spirit of friendship and acceptance. We welcome and receive all into a warm, friendly and open atmosphere.
From the Principal...
ROAD SAFETY - USE THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
Students are required to use the pedestrian crossing when crossing the car park. This is a major safety concern and it would be devastating to have a child injured, not only for the child, but their family, the school and the person in the car involved in the incident.
We owe it to our children to show them how to cross roads and carparks safely, and to make it a habit so they can do it regardless of whether or not an adult is present.
Children model what they see, so this means that adults using the pedestrian crossing set the example and the expectation. This means we also need all our adults in the school community using the pedestrian crossing. For the sake of an extra 30 seconds to use the crossing instead of walking through the car park, it is worth the effort - our children are worth the effort.
Please pass this message on to any person who does drop off and pick up for your child.

P & F NEWS - UPCOMING FUNDRAISER
P & F will be holding a fundraiser in term 4 where families can order items from Sunrise Bakery and the proceeds go to the school. There will be items that can be used for family meals (e.g. family-sized egg & bacon pies) available to order as well as treat items (e.g. lamingtons, strudels and slices).
E-SAFETY OVER THE HOLIDAYS
School holidays is a time when there is increased online activity by children so it is timely to look at what the recommendations are for helping to keep children safe online.
The eSafety website is an amazing resource with lots of information, tips and guidance.
WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND THE PLACE?
- NATURE PLAYSPACE
As part of their Farm Day program, Yr 6 students planted native seedlings in our nature playspace. This is part of our bigger project of revamping and developing this space.
Why do we need native plants in our nature playspace? To foster a connection to nature and promote environmental sustainability through low-maintenance, water-wise landscapes. It also creates a more engaging play environment.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT.......
GAGA BALL - WHAT IS THIS GAME MY CHILD KEEPS TALKING ABOUT?
Gaga Ball is a fast-paced dodgeball-like game played in our Gaga Ball Pit. Students use their hands to hit a ball at other players below the waist to get them out, with the last player standing declared the winner. It combines elements of dodgeball and handball, requiring players to dodge, strike, run, and jump to avoid being hit and to eliminate opponents. It is very popular because it is accessible to all skill levels and is a fast-paced game, so even if you get out quickly, you don’t have to wait too long before another game starts!

PARENT LINK
Parent Link is an ongoing feature of the newsletter. It is an opportunity to identify areas or features of the school that you want to know more about, ask a question or put forward suggestions. These items can then be addressed and answered in the fortnightly newsletter in the ‘Tell Me More About’ section.
This is an opportunity to have a say every day......not just in a once-a-year parent survey.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that attendance directly affects children's learning and their achievement level?
Kind regards,

In Year 1 this week ...
Science - Caring for our pets.
As part of our Science unit, the Year 1 students have been learning about living and non-living things. We have been discussing how humans and animals need food, shelter, water and air to survive.
To make our learning hands-on and fun, students created their own pretend pets out of playdough. Once their pets were made, they worked on designing three important things that their pets would need to survive - such as food, water, exercise, pen, human love and vet care.
This activity helped students to think critically about the needs of living things, discerning the difference between needs and wants, while also allowing them to use their creativity and imagination.

Student Achievements
On the 13th and 14th of September, we went down to Hobart for a Highland dance competition.
I danced in the highland fling, sword dance, seann triubhas, Strathspey and highland reel, Flora McDonalds Fancy, and the Scottish Lilt.
I came second overall in the novice category of and Ochre danced in her very first competition in the pas de basque and high cuts.
Ochre received her first medal because she came fifth in the pas de basque.

Student Work for Andrew Chinn
At Andrew Chinn's recent visit to the school, he asked if there was a student/s that could write an article and create a piece of artwork on St Athanasius. Andrew is a singer/songwriter and needed it for a new song and video he is producing.
Violet and Georgina's were keen to help out and produced the below piece of work in under an hour! Their work will feature in Andrew's song and video later in the year.

Lost Property
There are a lot of student items in the Lost Property box. The Lost Property box is located to the right of Breakfast Club. If you are missing any items, please check there.
Wanted - Uniform donations

Do you have any second hand school uniform items that you no longer want or need?
If so, we would love to have them donated for spare uniforms for our students for when accidents arise or to pass onto families doing it tough at the moment.

WWVP
All people wishing to volunteer at school, including Farm Days, MUST have their WWVP (or alternatively known as RWVP) - this includes parents and grandparents! There is no cost for a volunteer application and you never know when you might want to put your hand up to volunteer at school so why not put in an application now so that you are ready to go when the occasion presents itself!
A reminder that when arriving at the office for Farm Days etc, you are required to present your WWVP card.
