Teaching and Learning - Science of Learning
Last week our Insight Program coaches spent the day with myself, Alison Vogelaar, Jenni Hughes and Jane Knowles. It was an information session on the Science of Learning pedagogy with lots of great discussions. The Science of Learning is an evidence-based way of teaching where there is an emphasis on explicit teaching. Explicit teaching is the most efficient and effective way for student learning. Collaboration and inquiry are still important ways of teaching but at the right time and right place for maximum impact. We took the coaches on classroom visits to look at classroom setups as well as observe Spelling Mastery lessons. We have also had discussions about the next steps for the school. The coaches facilitated a staff meeting for all teaching staff on the Science of Learning pedagogy. Watch this space for updates and news on changes that will be occurring in classrooms and across the school!
Kinder 2024 - Applications now closed
Kinder 2024 enrolment applications have now closed. We will fill all spaces in the Kinder class which is a wonderful testament to the reputation that Larmenier has in the community. When asked why they want to send their child to Larmenier, prospective Kinder parents overwhelmingly replied that they have heard great things from their family and friends.
Seesaw - Have you checked your child's page?
We use the Seesaw application as a way of sharing with you photos or samples of your child's learning experience and work. Some pieces of work will have feedback attached to it so that you are kept informed on a timely basis of your child's learning journey and achievements. It also may highlight areas for your child to work on. The feedback may be in the form of a rubric or a comment or an audio file.
All Schools Cross Country
Thank you to the parents who have expressed an interest in having their child participate in the All Schools Cross Country on Tuesday 27th June. WE HAVE BOOKED A BUS! There are a couple of spaces still available on the bus so if you would like your child to attend the All Schools Cross Country please click on the blue link below to express your interest.
Don't forget you need to register for the event directly. The registration portal is still open. Registration, event information and regular updates can be found here: https://www.tasathletics.org.
Recent School events - NIJSSA Cross Country and Band Soiree
This past week we have had students participate in the NIJSSA Cross Country and the Music Program's Band Soiree.
It is a great opportunity for students to share their talents and gifts by participating in these types of events. Some of these talents and gifts require more training and practice than others. Ms Mowatt certainly professes to students the importance of practice. Well done to all students who participated to the best of their ability and represented Larmenier proudly.
Please visit our school's Facebook page to view photos.
Sensai Lockett
Sensai Lockett has arrived in Japan! We will keep you updated with her experiences. Students will be able to see where she is going and what she is doing via a Google site link that has been sent to class teachers. Watch this space for updates.
Kind regards
Niccola Pearce
Principal

News from the P & F
Hello from the P&F team,
We have now been functioning for a whole term and are making great progress in designing events to boost the connection between the school, parents, and friends of the school. On this, we have made significant strides with planning our first lot of events this year which will include hosting a mystery movie night (30th June - see flyer below) and a disco. Please keep an eye on the newsletter to find further information on dates for these events and how you can be involved in helping make these a success. We are meeting on Friday 16th June at 3.15 pm in the meeting room to finish planning the movie night. All welcome.
The P&F team would also like to say a huge thank you to Larmenier Catholic School for the donation of a brand-new popcorn machine which will be a feature at our events and school functions.
Our next P&F meeting is to be held on 6th July at 7pm in the Nazareth Centre.
Cheers,
Daniel Comins

What's Happening in Grade 1?
In Maths we have been working on place value and to consolidate our understanding we made monsters and donuts with ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. Our most recent storybook was about a lighthouse keeper who had pesky seagulls stealing his lunch. We came up with our own solutions and made lighthouses out of paper. We have also recently started buddies with Grade 5, we made a story together on book creator. Marty Ogle visited and showed us some magic while teaching us about safety online.
