Principal's Message
School Gospel Value - Love
Love motivated the care provided to the old and the young by Victoire Larmenier.
Let your love for each other be real and from the heart. (1 Peter 1:22)
Unselfish concern for the good of others is shown through patience, kindness, trust, hope, endurance, truth and a strong affection.
We have had a great start to the term and we have many events and special occasions coming up this term.
Insight Program
We had our Insight coach working with us last week on the teaching methods and approaches that reflect the Science of Learning way of teaching and learning. The Science of Learning, being evidence-based, has a number of teaching practices that promote student learning in the most efficient and effective way. Explicit teaching is where the teacher works directly with the students in a very purposeful way to help them to learn knowledge and skills. The classroom environment plays an important part and you might have noticed that some of the classrooms have already adopted the model where the desks are in rows facing the teacher. We have also replaced some of our tv monitors with projectors so that all students can easily see the material that is displayed on the screen. I look forward to being able to share with you more about the teaching practices of the Science of Learning as well as the student achievements we are seeing as a result of the its implementation.
Catholic Education Week
Our year 6 students attended Catholic Education Week Mass this week along with their peers from Catholic schools in the Greater Launceston Region. Our students conducted themselves reverently during Mass and actively joined in with socialising afterwards with the other year 6 students.
Uniform
We are starting to see students wear a number of items that are not part of the school uniform, namely a range of coloured socks, dangly earrings, hair colourings and coloured beanies. Please ensure students are only wearing the appropriate attire to school. It is wonderful to see students wearing the correct uniform, wearing it well and with pride. If there are some uniform items you require, please check in with the office to see if we have some of the items that we can forward on to you, at no cost, as we have lots of items in our 'Love' room and left over from the uniform shop.
Kind regards
Niccola Pearce
Principal

What's Happening in Grade 2?
In Grade 2 we have been learning about Space. We have been looking at how the sun moves across the sky during the day. We conducted an experiment to explore how Earth orbits the sun. We went out in the morning and traced our shadows. After some time had passed we went out two more times to see how our shadows position had changed.
We noticed that everytime we went out both the sun and our shadows had moved.

Animals on School Grounds
Did you know… An extract of relevant Tasmanian legislation (Dog Control Act 2000) states:
(1) A person must not take a dog into –
(a) any grounds of a school, or other place for the reception of children without the permission of a person in charge of the place.
(2) This section does not apply to –
(a) a guide dog that is accompanying a wholly or partially blind person or is in training for that purpose; There are other exceptions besides just ‘2a’ above.
Your duty… If you wish to bring any animals onsite, prior approval needs to be obtained from the Principal, or their nominated rep. The school may give approval, & discuss with you reasonable precautions. The school &/or individuals can be fined.
