Principal's Message
Events - STEM Conference, Band Soiree, Father’s Day Breakfast, excursions and incursions just to name a few!
We have had many extracurricular events in the past couple of weeks and we have more scheduled before the end of term e.g. yr 3 and yr 4 camps, Strings Soiree. These events highlight the number of opportunities that students have at Larmenier to participate in a range of learning or community experiences. It is timely to acknowledge all the time, effort and work that goes into the organisation and implementation of extracurricular events. Many hours, outside of work hours, are spent on planning these events as well as the hours involved 'on the day.' A heartfelt thanks goes to all staff who are involved in making these events happen as the events are not possible without the dedication and care of these staff members. Thank you also to the parents who support staff and support the events.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
We have parent/teacher meetings coming up in week 9. Bookings are made through Compass and will be open next week. I encourage all parents to take up this valuable opportunity to meet with teachers where the focus can be on the learning progression of your child. A strong bond between home and school is integral in assisting with progressing student learning - 'It takes a village.'
Master Planning session
Catholic Education Tasmania is funding and supporting master planning sessions with all Catholic schools in Tasmania. Last week we had the company Village Well visit the school and run a workshop with some staff, parents and students about what we value here at Larmenier and the direction or opportunities for Larmenier going into the future. It was an affirming experience where current features and practices at Larmenier were recognised. It was also an exciting experience as some innovative ideas have come forward and we are looking at these with intrigue as to what we can do in the future. Village Well will provide us with a report after they have combined and summarised the information that has been gathered. This will then be shared with the community and an opportunity for consultation.
Kind regards,
Niccola Pearce

What Has Grade 6 Been Doing ...
AMC Excursion 2023
By Ruth Lockhart and Logan Brimfield
This week our Grade Six class, along with Mr Smith, Ms Ritson and Mrs Turner visited the Australian Maritime College in Newnham. Our activity instructors split us into two groups. Group One got to go to the pool area first, where they were taught how to abandon ship, wear a life jacket, stay afloat and keep warm. To abandon ship we had to climb down a three metre high ladder onto a life raft where we were put into a simulated storm in the dark. We also had to jump from the three metre platform in a pin drop position.
Group Two went to boat training simulators and all got to drive the boats, learn how to navigate and work as a team.
The groups swapped over and then our final learning session was together with Tony, who taught us all about fire chemistry, fuel, ignition, heat and temperatures.
We all had a thrilling experience, as we learned to work as a team, overcome our fears and encourage each other. This was one of the best excursions we have experienced in our primary school years.

Primary Schools Soccer Tournament
Thank you to those students who have expressed interest. Unfortunately, the organisers have had to cancel the tournament for the moment. They are hoping to do it early next year.
