School Gospel Value - Hospitality
Victoire Larmenier welcomed everyone in a spirit of friendship and acceptance.
I was a stranger and you welcomed me. (Matt 25:37)
We welcome and receive all into a warm friendly and open atmosphere.
SCHOOL COLOUR FUN RUN
Larmenier P & F are holding a Colour Fun Run! Students were informed about it today at assembly and details will be sent home in a letter today (a copy of the letter is also attached below). In a nutshell, students sign up to participate and can then choose to fundraise - the more they fundraise the more prizes they get. As part of the festivities in the build-up to the event, as we reach fundraising milestones, a different staff member will be slimed! Ask your child which staff members have signed up to be slimed by students. The event on the night involves students running through an obstacle course and getting 'splashed' by colour powder! We will even have a parent one and a staff one!
Save the Date: Friday 15th November, 6 pm.
STAFFING
1. We have some staff who will be leaving us.
Sam Milbourne (Admin Officer) - Sam has decided that after 18 years it is time for her to move on from her role at Larmenier. Given the timing, Sam finished up at the end of term 3.
Heidi de Nardo (Farm Day Teacher) - Heidi has decided to dedicate her time to developing her new business (Sukuma Feast - healthy eating through the week with good nutrition on a budget) and will finish up at Larmenier at the end of the year.
Joel King (P.E Teacher) - Joel has been appointed a 1.0 FTE teaching The Arts at Queechy High School and will finish up at Larmenier at the end of the year.
We wish all these staff members well and the staff will more formally farewell them at later dates.
2. New appointments
Student Support Co-ordinator
Please join me in congratulating Carolyn Symons in being appointed ongoing Student Support Coordinator. We are blessed to have her continue in this challenging and busy role. She brings a high level of knowledge, skills and understanding of student disability to this position.
P.E Teacher
Esther Gardner has been appointed as P.E teacher at Larmenier, starting in 2025. Esther currently teaches P.E at St Finn Barr’s so is familiar with the role of P.E teacher in a primary school. She will continue to work at SFB as well as Larmenier next year.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT:
VAPING, ALCOHOL & DRUGS SEMINAR FOR PARENTS - FOR YEAR 5 & 6 PARENTS
Launceston Catholic Schools warmly invites parents to attend the NotEvenOnce “Clearing the Air” Vaping Seminar on the 23rd of October at 6:30 pm.
'Our young people face a challenging world, and schools and parents are under immense pressure to stay informed about the latest issues and trends. This is especially true in the Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) sector, which is in constant flux. The recent surge in vaping among youth exemplifies the confusion caused by misleading or sparse information. Since 2015, NotEvenOnce Projects has been supporting Australian schools, reaching over 126,000 students, professionals, and community members to date. Evaluated by Western Sydney University, our program outcomes have demonstrated a positive impact on the Cognitive and Affective Domains—how young people think and behave in this arena. This webinar will feature an informational session and Q&A with NotEvenOnce Projects CEO, Tanya Cavanagh. In addition to her role at NotEvenOnce Projects, Tanya leads Teen Challenge Tasmania, dedicating her efforts to assisting individuals struggling with addiction. She engages with young people daily in this field and is deeply committed to prevention. During the session, Tanya will debunk common vaping myths and shed light on the misleading practices of the vaping industry, equipping you to have informed discussions with your children.'
Venue - Sacred Heart School, Year 6 classroom (There will be signs showing the way. Enter via the Margaret Street entrance, turn left at the Kinder playground and walk upstairs.)
23rd of October at 6:30 pm (90 minutes run time approx.). To RSVP for the parent seminar please click on the link below.
P & F FUNDRAISING - HAVE YOUR SAY!
When the P + F hold school events the primary purpose is engagement and connection between students, staff, families and the wider school community. Sometimes funds are raised as part of these events. The P & F are also interested to hear from parents about how funds that have been raised should be used. Please click on the link below to have your say.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT…
Farm Day - So what happens on Farm Day?
PARENT LINK
Parent Link is an ongoing feature of the newsletter. It is an opportunity to identify areas or features of the school that you want to know more about, ask a question or put forward suggestions. These items can then be addressed and answered in the fortnightly newsletter in the ‘Tell Me More About’ section (as above).
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Elmo the parrot is getting a new home? He is having a custom-built walk-in aviary. Not only will he have more space to move around in but students and staff can walk into his enclosure to interact with him and undertake animal care duties. The aviary will be completed by February 2025.
Kind regards
