Principal's Message
Reflection
Lent
Lent is one of the five seasons of the Catholic liturgical calendar and it goes for a period of 40 days. It precedes Easter and is a period centred on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
There is no better time to reconnect with or deepen one’s faith than Lent. During this time, we can draw closer to God as we prepare for the joyous celebration of Christ’s resurrection at Easter. Lent can be an incredibly rewarding time for our faith lives.
The first day of Lent was Ash Wednesday, in which we used ashes on our forehead in the shape of a cross to remember our own mortality and begin our journey of penance. We are challenged to make Lent a time for LENT - let’s eliminate negative thoughts. These negative thoughts impact our relationships and can affect our relationship with God. Negative thoughts we can encounter are when
- We argue with others
- Are unkind to each other with words or actions
- Refuse to do what is asked of us
- Don’t give things our best effort
- Refuse to try new things
Often Lent is a time we are asked to give up something. So giving up negative thoughts will all allow us to grow in ourselves, will help our relationships with each other and with God. Negative thoughts effect us all. I am looking forward to giving up the negative thoughts that I encounter for Lent, giving them to God knowing that he will give me the strength to overcome them.
Looking back…
Looking back over the past two weeks we again have had many events and initiatives taking place at Larmenier.
Yr 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival Andrew Chinn visit Band & Stings Program
Fireman Aaron Fire Safety visits NIJSSA Swimming Carnival Larmenier Reads
These events are important in providing students with a wide range of experiences and learning opportunities. A photo or two of these events can be found on our school FaceBook page - Larmenier Catholic School. We use our Facebook as a way of sharing and celebrating what is going on in the school and it is a great way for families and friends to stay connected with out school activities.
Learning Conferences
Parent/Teacher meetings are in week 9 (Mon to Wed). These meetings are an important part of the home and school partnership where the focus is your child’s learning journey. It is an opportunity to look at where your child is achieving as well as what needs to be the next step in their learning. Booking will be made through Compass and will be open for bookings next week. We will communicate with you when the booking portal is open.
ANZAC Day
Students are going to be invited to represent Larmenier at the ANZAC Day march and service which takes place on Tuesday 25th April. Our Captains will lay a wreath on behalf of the school. A Google form will come out towards the end of the term where you can register your child’s participation in representing Larmenier at the march and the service. I am hoping that we can have a whole tribe of Larmenier students wearing their uniform with pride, representing their school and paying respects to our service men and women.
Kind regards
